Warhounds Roadmap 2026: Update 1.0.2, Consoles, DLC and Mods

Track Warhounds Update 1.0.2, Hotfix #8 shader startup bypass, the separate Unstable test branch, December console/DLC plans and modding tools.

Verified for: Warhounds 1.0 / Hotfix #8Last checked: October 10, 2026

Quick Answer

Both September roadmap milestones have now shipped: Simplified Chinese released on September 7 as Patch #2, and Major Update 1.0.2 released on September 24. Sea of Pirates plus Xbox and PlayStation remain planned for December 2026, while modding tools remain planned around the game’s first anniversary.

As checked October 10, Major Update 1.0.2 remains the numbered-patch baseline and Hotfix #8 (October 8) is the newest official live update. Hotfix #8 offers an optional launch-option bypass for shader compilation failures, not a permanent fix. The October 2 experimental shader branch is documented separately as Testing. December console/DLC plans and anniversary modding tools remain future plans.

This page uses Released, Testing, and Planned deliberately. A roadmap date is not treated as a shipped feature until current official evidence confirms release.

Current state - Major Update 1.0.2 + Hotfix #8

Warhounds launched on Windows PC on August 11, 2026. Patch 1.0.1 followed on August 24, Hotfix #6 on August 31, and Patch #2 on September 7 with Simplified Chinese interface/subtitles plus UI fixes.

Major Update 1.0.2 shipped on September 24. Its final release note confirms the campaign-progression rebalance, Exoskeleton armor, rookie class selection, four additional localizations, Character Editor additions, quality-of-life changes, and a broad developer-listed fix set. The final release wording, rather than the older roadmap shorthand, controls what this page marks as shipped.

Hotfix #7 shipped September 30 with a narrowly described civilian-turn/mine-explosion freeze fix and automatic Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable downloading. On October 2, the developer placed an experimental shader-compilation fix on the shaders_warmup_fix Unstable branch; it remains labeled Testing. Hotfix #8 released October 8 with an optional Steam launch parameter to bypass warmup for players whose game stalls there. It is a released workaround, not a claim that the experimental shader fix became permanent or moved to stable.

September 7 - Simplified Chinese released

Patch #2: Simplified Chinese Localization shipped on September 7, 2026. The official announcement confirms Simplified Chinese for both the interface and subtitles, and also mentions several UI fixes.

The current Steam language table still lists Simplified Chinese with Interface: Yes, Subtitles: Yes, Full Audio: No. This milestone remains Released.

Patch #2 is a separate localization/UI update. It is not Major Update 1.0.2; the later major update released separately on September 24. See Platforms, Languages and System Requirements for the current language table.

September 24 - Major Update 1.0.2 released

Major Update 1.0.2 released on September 24, 2026. The final release announcement confirms:

  • campaign meta-economy and progression rebalance;
  • Exoskeleton as late-game armor available from loot or the Black Market;
  • rookie class selection;
  • Portuguese (Brazil), Korean, Japanese, and Turkish localization support;
  • Character Editor additions described as various patches, armor kits, and a new headgear option;
  • quality-of-life improvements and a broad developer-listed fix set.

Roadmap wording versus final release wording

The August roadmap had listed armor attachments and country flag patches. The September 24 release note does not repeat those exact terms. It instead names Character Editor patches, armor kits, and headgear. Because the final announcement is the release authority, this page does not automatically upgrade the roadmap phrases to “released” as if they were confirmed synonyms.

The roadmap’s broader economy/balance, UI, bug-fix, class-selection, Exoskeleton, and localization themes are represented in the final release note, but exact implementation details come from that final note rather than from the August plan.

September 30 - Hotfix #7 released

Hotfix #7 is a released live update, but it does not change the numbered version. The developer lists a fix for the civilian turn freezing when a mine explodes simultaneously and adds automatic downloading of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package.

October 2 - shader compilation fix testing

The developer acknowledged shader compilation issues affecting some players, frequently related to AMD graphics cards, and deployed an experimental fix to Steam’s shaders_warmup_fix Unstable branch. That branch was a test path, distinct from the stable Hotfix #8 workaround.

October 8 - Hotfix #8 released

The October 10 official-news check records Hotfix #8 as the current live update. It adds a symptom-specific way to skip startup shader warmup using the Steam Launch Options parameter --skipShaderWarmUp, for players blocked at that stage. The developer explicitly warns this can cause gameplay stutters for players who did not have the shader issue and says a permanent system solution is still being developed.

See Hotfix #8 patch details and the stuck loading troubleshooting guide for activation, limits, and rollback.

December 2026 - Sea of Pirates, Xbox and PlayStation

The roadmap currently plans three December items:

  • Sea of Pirates DLC;
  • Xbox;
  • PlayStation.

The official wording says the console launch is currently planned for December 2026. This is stronger than the older broad “toward the end of 2026” statement, but it is still a plan rather than a released console version.

The roadmap says Xbox and PlayStation. It does not, in the source verified here, narrow those platform names to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or another specific hardware generation. This page therefore preserves the official platform wording instead of guessing from current console families.

The roadmap also does not provide a specific December day, console store links, pricing, cross-save support, controller-feature parity, or DLC details beyond the Sea of Pirates name. Those remain unannounced or unverified here.

Around the first anniversary - modding tools

The August 27 roadmap now explicitly plans modding tools around Warhounds’ first anniversary. That changes the evidence status from older tentative developer interest to a current official future plan.

It does not mean any of the following are live today:

  • Steam Workshop support;
  • an official SDK;
  • a downloadable editor;
  • a supported mod loader;
  • official package/load-order documentation.

Community JSON, MDB, and cosmetic file modifications already exist independently of that future plan. See Mods and Steam Workshop Support for the current-versus-future distinction and compatibility cautions.

What the roadmap does not confirm yet

Avoid turning roadmap shorthand into details the developer has not published. As of the October 10 verification, the remaining evidence does not establish:

  • exact Exoskeleton stats, restrictions, or acquisition rates beyond loot and Black Market availability;
  • that the roadmap term armor attachments is identical to the released Character Editor term armor kits;
  • that the roadmap term country flag patches is identical to the release note’s broader various patches;
  • an exact December release day for the DLC or consoles;
  • specific Xbox or PlayStation hardware generations;
  • console pricing, cross-save, achievements, or storefront parity;
  • Steam Workshop, an SDK, or current official mod tools;
  • an exact calendar date for the first-anniversary modding-tools release.

The developer’s roadmap itself states that plans and release dates may change. This page will therefore promote an item from Scheduled/Planned to Released only after a current first-party source confirms it.
